Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday (November 17, 2025) submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan at Raj Bhavan, in Patna.

Before going to Raj Bhavan, Mr. Kumar chaired his last cabinet meeting of the present government, during which all the cabinet ministers tendered their resignation and recommended to dissolve the present Assembly.

The oath taking ceremony will take place on November 20 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, “In the last cabinet it was decided to dissolve the current assembly on November 19 and Nitishji has recommended this to Governor.”

This will be the tenth time, Mr. Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The ruling NDA retained the mandate to rule Bihar for the next five years by bagging 202 seats in the 243-member House, with the BJP winning the maximum number of 89 seats, followed by the JD(U)’s tally of 85.
