The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) apprehended a Nigerian national for overstaying his visa and allegedly engaging in drug-peddling activities.

The man, identified as Johnkennedy Chukwuemeka Okoro, also known as Hopy Cup or Jeksa, 43, from Imo State, Nigeria, was deported to his home country after verification by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

An officer from the H-NWW said that Okoro entered India on a business visa in 2012 and initially worked in the garment trade. “However, his passport and visa later expired, and he continued living illegally in the country while frequently travelling between Bengaluru and Hyderabad. He began indulging in drug-peddling to make quick money,” said the officer.

The H-NEW team detained him in the Asif Nagar area after he was found moving suspiciously. Although no drugs were found in his possession, the police said his past activities warranted immediate deportation to prevent further offences.

Following coordination between H-NEW and the FRRO, his identity and expired travel documents were confirmed, and the deportation process was completed.

Since its formation, H-NEW has apprehended and deported 22 foreign nationals residing illegally in India, including 10 this year alone. Officials said the enforcement wing continues to monitor foreign nationals overstaying their visas and engaging in illegal activities.
