Two migrant workers sustained injuries in an alleged assault by a six-member group while they were unloading cattle near a meat shop at Karoda in Manjeswaram, Kasaragod, in the early hours of Saturday (February 14, 2026).

The alleged incident took place around 1.30 a.m. The workers, Dawood, 38, and Gurkhan, 45, both from Uttar Pradesh, had brought the cattle from Palakkad. They were later admitted to the Kumbala cooperative hospital.

In their statement to the police, the workers said the group who arrived in an autorickshaw and on a motorcycle attacked them, saying that the cattle should not be unloaded or slaughtered.

Locals who witnessed the alleged incident alerted the police. On learning that the police were on their way, the assailants reportedly fled the scene.

The police are probing whether the attack was pre-planned, and if there was an attempt to create tension in the area.

Manjeswaram Inspector Ajith Kumar said a case would be registered after recording the statements of the injured. Surveillance has been intensified in the area.
