P.S. Leela Alex and Vandana Garg assumed charge as new Collectors of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts respectively on Sunday.

The outgoing Vellore Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi and Ms. Alex exchanged pleasantries at the Collectorate. “Being a historic city, Vellore is also growing faster in various fields. Efforts will be taken to bring more industries to provide jobs for unemployed youth. The administration will ensure 100% transparency as outlined by the State government,” Ms. Leela Alex told the media.

In Tiruvannamalai, Ms. Garg, who was on leave before being posted as Collector, came with her family, including two children, to the Collectorate. Ms. Garg was welcomed by the outgoing Collector K. Tharpagaraj as she entered the Collector’s chamber.

She was initially unable to recognise him, saying that she had seen him somewhere. In a lighter vein, Mr. Tharpagaraj introduced himself as the outgoing Collector of Tiruvannamalai. Immediately, everyone in the chamber burst into laughter as Ms. Garg shielded her face with a smile. The video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. Mr. Tharpagaraj will take charge as Director, Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils.

In her interaction with journalists, Ms. Garg said that the district was geographically vast, with certain areas like Chengam battling water scarcity. On the other hand, areas like Cheyyar are known for industries and urbanisation. “With support from all government departments and the public, I am sure that I will bring good changes in the district during my tenure,” she said.
