Nearly 20,000 turtle eggs conserved on Hope Island

The officials of the Wildlife Management Authority and Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary have conserved nearly 20,000 eggs of Olive Ridley Turtles on Hope Island in the Kakinada Bay. Hope Island is one of the safe nesting grounds of Olive Ridley Turtles in Andhra Pradesh. In an official release, Kakinada District Forest Officer N. Rama Chandra Rao said that the hatchlings are being released into the sea.

“As many as 19,858 eggs have been collected from the 174 nests of the olive ridley turtles and all of them are being conserved under the in-situ conservation method on the island”, said Mr. Ramachandra Rao. On March 26 alone, Joint Collector Apoorva Bharat and Kakinada Assistant Collector Ms. Manisha released as many as 585 Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings into the sea on the island.
