The Mysuru Police in Karnataka have registered a case and began an investigation after a complaint was lodged by a woman, a native of Irikkur in Kannur district of Kerala, alleging that a fake Facebook account created using her mobile number was used for cyberattack against AICC general secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal.

The offensive post appeared from a Facebook profile named Kundara Baby, which reportedly used the same mobile number linked to the complainant. The woman, who has been residing in Mysuru for years, said she has been using a phone number registered under the name of her sister, who works abroad.

According to the complainant, she was unaware that a fake account had been created using her number until she came across the cyberattack post targeting Mr. Venugopal. She then approached the Mysuru police seeking action.

In her complaint, she urged the police to identify those operating the fake profile and ensure its removal from Facebook.

The police said a cyber investigation has been initiated to trace the origin and the operators of the fake account.
