The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) will be launching a drive to collect power bills from consumers who failed to clear the same even after the due date.
In a statement here, CESC has requested all categories of electricity consumers, including government departments, to pay their outstanding electricity bill dues by November 14 either at the official CESC cash counters or through online mode.
With the bill collection drive scheduled to start from November 14, the CESC said that power supply will be disconnected from the electricity meters of consumers if their dues are not paid by the stipulated date. “Consumers are requested to avoid such action by paying their electricity bill arrears at the earliest,” said Managing Director of CESC Munigopal Raju in a statement here on Friday.
As per the rules of Conditions of Supply of Electricity, Distribution Licensee 2004 of Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), the CESC said, “If the consumer does not pay the bill within the due date, the licensee shall issue a clear 15-day notice after the due date, and if the payment is still not made, the licensee has the right to disconnect the electricity meter/supply.”
The rules also say that “a period of 15 days from the date of bill delivery shall be considered the final deadline for payment,” the CESC said before adding that the notice printed on the reverse side of the monthly bill states that “if the bill is not paid within the stipulated time, the bill itself shall be treated as a 15-day notice for possible disconnection of power supply, and the due date extension does not apply to previous arrears.”
Hence, if the dues are not paid by the stipulated date, power supply to the respective meters will be disconnected without any further notice after November 14, the CESC statement warned.
