A 24-year-old woman from Mumbai — en route to Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region as part of a bikers’ group – was killed after her vehicle was hit by another vehicle, suspected to be a truck, in Balod district early on Wednesday (August 12, 2026).

The woman, Riddhi Divyesh Thakkar, 24, was a resident of Maharashtra’s Borivali (West), and part of a group of 20 bikers who had planned a tour from Raipur to Bastar.

Balod Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said that the incident occurred near Markatola Ghat, Thakkar was struck by an unidentified four-wheeled vehicle (possibly a truck), resulting in severe injuries and fractures to both her legs.

“Following a call to the ‘112’ emergency service, a vehicle from the Charama police station area transported her to the community health centre, Charama; she was subsequently referred to Shriram Hospital in Dhamtari, where she passed away during treatment. A post-mortem examination is currently being conducted at the District Hospital in Dhamtari. The incident site falls under the jurisdiction of the Purur police station, where the FIR will be registered,” said Mr. Chavan.

The errant driver or the vehicle had not been identified till Wednesday (August 12) evening. According to social media posts that were shared online, the group, which had bikers from different parts of Maharashtra, had left Raipur, having completed the earlier leg of their tour from Nagpur to Raipur a day earlier. It is learnt that the fellow bikers were returning home after the incident.
