Minister for Roads and Buildings and Infrastructure B.C. Janardhana Reddy on Monday said that the government would complete pending works of Mulapeta seaport within a year.

He said that the the government had been focusing on the seaport since it would spur economic activity in the entire Srikakulam district. Along with Minister for Agriculture K. Atchannaidu, he visited the seaport located in Santabommali of Tekkali division and inquired about the reported delay of the works.

The Ministers’ visit assumed significance in the backdrop of YSRCP’s recent agitation over the delay in the project works in the last two years. Speaking to the media, Mr. Reddy alleged that the YSRCP was trying to get the credit for the construction of the seaport although majority works were taken up during Chandrababu Naidu government.

He said that the officials were given instructions to complete the seaport works by November, 2026. He said that four berths were taken up in phase-1 with an estimated cost of ₹4,361.91 crores.

Mr. Reddy said that the works could be not taken up as per the original plan due to delay in acquisition of land and other issues. He hoped that the seaport would enable other States such as Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and others for cargo export and imports.

Mr. Atchannaidu said that one flyover would be constructed near Naupada junction on the request of local people. He said that approach roads would also be completed very soon. Both ministers and officials interacted with local people and listened to their grievances.
