A 26-year-old woman and her lesbian partner were arrested in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday (November 8, 2025) for allegedly killing her five-month-old infant.

The key accused S. Bharathi (26), a resident of Chinnati near Kelamangalam has two daughters and gave birth to a baby boy five months ago. On November 4, she breastfed the baby and the infant died within a few minutes. The body was buried in their agricultural land.

But, her husband Suresh raised suspicion over the activities of Bharathi as she was normal and happy after the infant’s death.

When he checked her mobile phone, he reportedly found photographs and videos of Bharathi with their neighbour Sumithra (20), suggestive of the two women being in a relationship. Suresh also found that a photo of the infant was sent to Sumithra after his death.

Suresh lodged a complaint with Kelamangalam police. The police found that after the birth of the male baby, Bharathi did not speak to Sumithra properly and they had quarrelled. Sumithra allegedly asked Bharathi to kill the infant to continue their relationship. Following this, Bharathi allegedly strangled the infant while breastfeeding him on November 4.

The police exhumed the body on Friday (November 7) and the post-mortem confirmed that the child was murdered. The police registered a case and arrested Sumithra and Bharathi. The duo was remanded in Dharmapuri prison on Saturday.
