Asia Cup trophy not awarded to champions India after they refuse to accept it from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi

Asia Cup champions Indian team on Sunday (September 28, 2025) refused to accept the winners’ trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be Pakistan’s Interior Minister and chairman of the country’s cricket board. As Mr. Naqvi stood on one side for the presentation ceremony to begin, Indian players were standing within 15 yards, refusing to budge from their places and the formalities were being inordinately delayed.

Two civilians killed in Ladakh protests cremated amid curfew in Leh

The bodies of the two civilians, who were killed on September 24 during street protests in Ladakh, were cremated in Leh on Sunday (September 28, 2025), with only close relatives allowed to attend the last rites. A curfew was enforced for the fifth straight day. Officials said the last rites of the victims, Jigmet Dorjay, 25, a resident of Kharnakling village, and Stanzin Namgyal, 23, a resident of Igoo village, were held in Leh town between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Ice-cool Tilak wins it for India in a pulsating finale

For the past three weeks in the 17th edition of the Asia Cup, political undercurrents and off-field controversies involving India and Pakistan had overshadowed the contest between bat and ball. The conclusion to the continental competition at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 28, 2025), however, fittingly brought cricket back to the forefront as the two arch-rivals engaged in a pulsating battle with the title on the line.

BCCI to lodge protest against Naqvi after Asia Cup trophy presentation fiasco

Devajit Saikia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, has condemned the act of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi taking the Asia Cup trophy along with him from the dais after India declined to accept it from him. Mr. Saikia also confirmed that the BCCI will take up the issue in the next International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Board meeting in November.

Death toll in Karur stampede rises to 40; Justice Aruna Jagadeesan begins inquiries

The death toll in Saturday night’s stampede at the political rally of actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay at Velusamypuram in Karur in Tamil Nadu went up to 40 on Sunday (September 28, 2025). Kavin (31), who was undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Karur, was the latest victim succumbing to the injuries.

RJD, Congress to give up seats in favour of allies in Bihar

The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Mahagatbandhan in Bihar is veering towards a seat-division formula, where the two biggest parties in the coalition — the RJD and Congress — will contest fewer seats than they did in the previous Assembly election. Each party could give up at least a dozen seats to accommodate other allies, including Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party. The final formula will depend on seat-wise deliberations between the allies.

Two dead after shooting, fire at Michigan Mormon church

At least two people were killed and several others injured on Sunday (September 28, 2025) after a shooter targeted a Mormon church in Michigan, authorities said, in the latest deadly tragedy that U.S. President Donald Trump called part of a national “epidemic of violence”.
