A man from Bandlaguda who killed his three-year-old son and disposed of the body in the Musi River following a family dispute was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday (September 16, 2025). The accused was identified as 37-year-old Mohd Akbar, a vegetable vendor and resident of Noori Nagar.

According to Bandlaguda police, the case to light after the child’s mother, Sana Begum, lodged a complaint on September 13 stating that her son Mohammed Anas had gone missing in the early hours of the day. A kidnapping case was registered, and investigation was launched.

During the inquiry, suspicion fell on the boy’s father and after sustained questioning, Akbar confessed to smothering the child with a pillow after an argument with his wife. He then packed the body in a gunny bag and threw it into the Musi River from Nayapul bridge to destroy the evidence. Akbar allegedly took the step due to frequent family disputes over medical expenses for his son, who was diagnosed with a heart condition.

The confession was supported by technical evidence, including CCTV footage, police said. Search operations are underway with Disaster Response Force and Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) teams to recover the body.

The case has been altered from kidnapping to murder and causing disappearance of evidence. Investigation further revealed that Akbar had previously been involved in a murder case registered in Narsingi, where a woman was killed after she resisted his sexual advances. Further investigation is underway.
