A 33-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband following a domestic dispute at Borabanda late on Monday night, with police launching a manhunt for the accused.
The victim, Saraswathi, was attacked with a pestle by her husband, R. Anjaneyulu, 43, who police said frequently quarrelled with her, suspecting her fidelity.
The incident was reported around 11.55 p.m. when Saraswathi was asleep at their rented apartment in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Borabanda. “Anjaneyulu allegedly picked up a pestle and struck her on the head. She died on the spot,” said Borabanda Inspector M. Surender.
According to the official, preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple, married for 13 years, were living with their two children, a 13-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl. Neighbours alerted the police after the incident, following which they rushed to the scene and shifted the body for post-mortem examination.
Based on a complaint lodged by Saraswathi’s brother, a case of murder has been registered. Police said efforts are under way to trace the accused.
