Excise officials on Tuesday seized unaccounted cash to the tune of ₹67.5 lakh from a private bus and detained a man, P. Sameer, 41, of Cheleri near Taliparamba, during inspections held ahead of the local body polls and the Christmas-New Year season.

The seizure was made at the Manjeswaram Excise check-post on Tuesday morning. Sameer was detained after he failed to produce documents to prove the source of the money.

The inspection was conducted by Excise Circle Inspector Shijil Kumar, along with Inspector Santhosh Kumar C., Assistant Inspector Janaradhanan K.A., Preventive Officer Noushak K., and Civil Excise Officer Prasanth Kumar.
