Officials of the Legal Metrology has directed the manufacturers, distributors and the retailers to take steps for the revision of MRP in view of the GST reforms.

Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, at a meeting held on Monday, directed the Legal Metrology Department officials to pass on the benefits of reduction in Maximum Retail Price (MRP) with respect to the reforms of GST 2.0, to the consumer.

The Legal Metrology Department will enforce the Legal Metrology (LM) Act, 2009, and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

GST revisions directly intersect with Legal Metrology as changes in tax rates necessitates MRP adjustments on packaged commodities to reflect the accurate pricing and prevent exploitation of the consumer, said Controller of Legal Metrology Saurabh Guar.

The manufacturers, distributors or the retail sellers shall affix the stickers with revised MPR on the unsold packages. The packers or the importers shall sensitise the dealers and consumers about GST rate reductions through various print and electronic media, the Controller explained.

For any complaints regarding excess collection of MRP by any trader, consumers may dial toll free no. 1967, Mr. Saurabh Gaur said.
