In the Parali grama panchayat, the president and vice-president were determined by a draw of lots on Saturday. The Left Democratic Front’s K.T. Ushakumari became president and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s K.S. Ajit vice-president in the draw of lots.
After losing out in the draw for the president’s post, the BJP secured victory in the vice-president’s election.
In the 21-member panchayat council, both the LDF and the BJP hold eight seats each, while the United Democratic Front’s has five members.
With both the LDF and the BJP securing eight votes each in the election, the president and vice-president were decided by a draw of lots.
In the first phase of voting, the UDF managed only four votes after its member K.N. Anandji’s ballot was declared invalid.
