A three-year-old girl died after suffering an electric shock at a house in Ranni on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Avantika, daughter of Binoy Thomas and Sandra, natives of Vayalathala in Ranni.

The incident occurred at the ancestral house of Sandra while the child was playing indoors. According to preliminary information, Sandra had gone to take a bath, leaving Avantika playing inside the house. When she returned, she found the child lying unconscious on the floor.

As Sandra rushed to lift the child, she too received an electric shock. The power supply was immediately switched off with the help of local residents, following which the child was rushed to the Ranni Taluk Hospital.

Doctors and healthcare workers made every effort to revive the child, though to no avail. Doctors later confirmed that the cause of death was electrocution.

The police said the exact source of the electric shock is yet to be ascertained. A team from the Ranni police visited the house and has launched an investigation to determine how the child came into contact with the live electrical source.
