The state government has decided to develop Lalbagh style parks in Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating the annual flower show at Lalbagh, Mr. Shivakumar said the projects regarding parks had already received Cabinet approval. He added that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has assured financial assistance for two parks, and officials have been directed to seek feedback from residents living around the proposed sites before taking up development works.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Lalbagh remains a key asset for the State. He noted that Karnataka exports nearly 17 aircraft-loads of flowers and vegetables every week and said the government is planning to establish an international flower and vegetable market in the city.

Responding to concerns over the proposed tunnel road project, Mr. Shivakumar said there was no threat to Lalbagh. “There is no problem for Lalbagh due to the tunnel road. We are more concerned about Lalbagh than anyone else,” he said, adding that tunnel roads are necessary given the rapid growth in the city’s population.
