A 37-year-old labourer was found dead inside a workers’ camp at a construction site in Gachibowli on Saturday (January 3, 2026) morning, prompting the police to launch a probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased, identified as Ajay Dalai, a native of Sabarang village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district, had been staying at the SAS Infra labour camp located at survey number 97 in Nanakramguda. Dalai had joined the camp only about a week ago for work.

The incident came to light around 6 a.m., when the camp’s security guard, Mani, noticed Dalai lying motionless in his room and informed the labour colony in-charge, Vakkanti Naveen, over the phone. Naveen (41), who resides in Vanasthalipuram, rushed to the labour colony and found Dalai dead in his room.

In his petition to the police, Naveen stated that Dalai had dinner along with other labourers on January 2 and went into his room to sleep at around 9 p.m. but was found motionless in the morning. He then alerted the Gachibowli police who reached the spot.

Police said no signs of disturbance or struggle were noticed inside the room where the body was found. Based on the complaint, a case has been booked and investigation is underway.
