The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hubballi Branch Office, in collaboration with the Department of Industries and Commerce (DIC), District Industries Centre (DIC), and the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI), organised a World Standards Day-2025 Stakeholders Conclave and ZED–LEAN Awareness Workshops under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme at KKCCI Auditorium in Kalaburagi on Saturday.

Inaugurating the event, Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises Sharanabasappa Darshanapur reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to industrial growth in the Kalyana Karnataka region. He said the government was extending special subsidies and facilities to promote MSMEs, large and mega industries, and had established a dedicated MSME Directorate to ensure faster and more inclusive growth.

Abdul Azeem, Joint Director, DIC Kalaburagi, outlined the objectives of the RAMP scheme, a World Bank-supported initiative to boost MSME competitiveness through innovation, market expansion, technology adoption, and sustainability.

P.N. Murali, Scientist-E and Head of BIS Hubballi, stressed the importance of Partnerships for the Goals (SDG-17) and called for closer collaboration between standards bodies, industry, and academia. Tushar Sharma, Scientist-D, read out a joint message from ISO, IEC, and ITU highlighting their shared commitment to global quality standards.

A technical session by Ashutosh Agrawal, scientist-B, focused on BIS standards implementation and outreach activities in the Kalaburagi region. Later, Swarupan Das, Deputy Director and Head of the National Productivity Council (NPC), Bengaluru, conducted an awareness session on ZED and LEAN initiatives, explaining how they enhance MSME efficiency, quality, and competitiveness.

Presiding over the conclave, Sharanabasappa M. Pappa, president of KKCCI, said that the ZED and LEAN initiatives would empower MSMEs in the region to improve productivity and align with global best practices.

The programme saw active participation from representatives of several industrial associations, including Shashikanth B. Patil, Shivraj V. Inginshetty, Abhijeet R. Padashetty, Chandrashekhar Kobal, Bhimashankar B. Patil, and Ravindra Mukka, among others.
