Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao alleged that constitutional values are being trampled at every step under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s rule.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on the occasion of Republic Day after unfurling the national flag, Mr. Rama Rao described the present governance in the State not as ‘people’s rule’ but as ‘authoritarian rule that mocks the Constitution’.

Mr. Rama Rao said both the Congress at the State level and the BJP at the Centre were competing with each other in acting against the spirit of the Constitution. He alleged that under Mr. Revanth Reddy’s leadership, an ‘unwritten and arbitrary Constitution’ was being enforced in Telangana.

The former Minister criticised the Congress and Rahul Gandhi for what he termed double standards. Referring to the ‘Nyaya Patra’ released by Mr. Rahul Gandhi at Tukkuguda, he said the Congress claimed to oppose defections, while leaders who defected from the BRS were seated right beside Mr. Rahul Gandhi on the same stage.

He also took strong exception to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s alleged public calls to demolish flag masts, saying such statements amount to burying constitutional values and threatening public order. He accused the government of presiding over what he called a regime of atrocities against the downtrodden and journalists. He alleged that journalists were being arrested like criminals, and questioned whether this was not a violation of constitutional values.

Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he recalled the former’s warning that even the best Constitution would become ineffective if those implementing it lacked integrity. As part of the Republic Day programme at Telangana Bhavan, students from Hyderabad Central University (HCU) staged a skit highlighting the prevailing political situation and alleged constitutional violations in the State.
