Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday (May 16, 2026) said a new railway station at Komuravelli, aimed at facilitating travel for devotees visiting the Komuravelli Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, had been completed, and it is expected to be opened to the public either in the last week of this month or early next month.
The Minister said the Centre was prioritising the expansion of the railway network in Hyderabad and that the second phase of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) was progressing at a fast pace. He added that the project would improve public transport connectivity and is being extended up to the temple town of Yadadri. Earlier, he inspected ongoing modernisation works at Malakpet and Uppuguda railway stations.
Addressing the media on the occasion, Mr. Reddy said the redevelopment of these stations was part of efforts to improve rail infrastructure in the Old City. He noted that the two stations, which once handled significant passenger traffic, had lost prominence over time and were now being upgraded with modern amenities under the Centre’s initiatives.
He said the objective was to ensure that people in the Old City have access to railway facilities comparable to those in other parts of the country.
He added that several stations across the city — including Hafizpet, Begumpet, Nampally, Secunderabad, Hitech City, Malakpet, Yakutpura, Uppuguda, Umdanagar, Shadnagar, Malkajgiri, and Medchal — were being upgraded simultaneously.
Mr. Reddy said Secunderabad Railway Station was being redeveloped into a world-class facility, while modernisation work at Nampally station was also progressing rapidly.
