Samagra Shiksha has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Khan Academy India, a leading non-profit educational organisation, with the objective of enhancing the quality of education in the 352 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) across Andhra Pradesh.
In a statement, Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao said with the support of UNICEF, the partnership will provide specialised training to Intermediate-level teachers of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology working in KGBVs. The collaboration will also enable teachers to use Khanmigo, Khan Academy’s artificial intelligence (AI)-powered teaching assistant, free of cost in their classrooms, giving them access to advanced educational content and AI-supported teaching tools.
Mr. Rao said the training programme would be implemented in phases. As part of the initial phase, Teacher Mentors (TMs) will be identified by selecting highly competent teachers from each subject, who will receive intensive training first. Subsequently, the remaining subject teachers will be trained on how to effectively teach Intermediate Science and Mathematics using Khan Academy’s digital content and learning resources.
The MoU was signed on Monday at the Samagra Shiksha State Office and the event was attended by Head of Government Partnerships and Programmes, Khan Academy India Shubhra Mittal, Senior Manager (Training) Sanket Patil, Additional State Project Director (ASPD), Samagra Shiksha M.R. Prasanna Kumar, KGBV Secretary D. Devananda Reddy, UNICEF representative Sheshagiri Madhusudan, UNICEF Consultant Priyanka and other officials.
The initiative aims to promote personalised learning, enabling students to learn at their own pace while benefiting from digital educational resources and technology-enabled classroom instruction.
Founded by Padma Shri awardee Sal Khan, Khan Academy is a globally renowned non-profit organisation providing “a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.” In India, Khan Academy delivers free multilingual educational resources in partnership with several leading organisations, including Tata Trusts, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank Parivartan, SBI Foundation, IndiaMART, Info Edge, Concentrix, Axis Bank, Cognizant Foundation, Capgemini, Intel, and Shell.
The State government’s collaboration is expected to strengthen digital teaching practices in KGBVs and improve learning outcomes for students by equipping teachers with modern AI-enabled instructional tools and high-quality educational content.
