Lok Satta Founder Jayaprakash Narayan called sustainability and inclusive growth as the twin pillars ensuring equitable development, which also helps in bridging the gap between different sections of the society.

Mr. Narayan, who is also the general secretary of the Foundation for Democratic Reforms, addressed the students of Indian Institute of Technology-Tirupati (IIT-T) here on Wednesday on the theme ‘India – The road ahead’, where he highlighted the crucial role of effective governance in shaping India’s future.

Elaborating on why government is essential for maintaining order, rule of law and fulfilling the collective needs of the citizens such as education, healthcare and infrastructure, Mr. Narayan termed governance as the backbone of a stable and equitable society.

Presenting an analytical overview of India’s GDP composition across various sectors, Mr. Narayan compared them with the education, healthcare, agriculture, industry and service sectors of other leading economies.

While discussing several landmark reforms of the 20th century and tracing their impact on India’s democratic and economic evolution, Mr. Narayan called for systemic policy interventions and institutional reforms to ensure the translation of economic progress into social well-being.

In his opening remarks, IIT-T Director K.N. Satyanarayana explained the sustainable initiatives implemented on the campus and the various awards received in their recognition. The participants later engaged in discussions on governance challenges, public policy innovation and the role of youth in nation building.
