Kerala University will establish a special academic chair named Ganapati Sastri Chair in memory of the distinguished Sanskrit scholar and manuscriptologist T. Ganapati Sastri on the occasion of his death centenary.

Vice Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal made the announcement while inaugurating a national seminar jointly organised by the Manuscript Library and the Oriental Research Institute at the Karyavattom campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Kunnummal said that Ganapati Sastri’s contributions were unparalleled, particularly in recovering and presenting to the world rare Indian texts such as the Bhasa’s plays and Kautilya’s Arthashastra.

He said the Ganapati Sastri Chair is being established to provide specialised training for the younger generation in palm-leaf manuscript research and script reading, while also prioritising the modern digitisation of ancient manuscripts.
