The India Meteorological Department (IMD) withdrew the red alert issued for Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).

The latest weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Wednesday placed Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on orange alert, along with Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta, where very heavy rain is likely to occur during the next 24 hours.

A yellow alert has also been issued for Kasaragod, Kannur, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram, warning of isolated heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move towards the north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh coasts after intensifying into a depression, and the system is expected to intensify further during the subsequent 24 hours.

Under the influence of the system, thunderstorms and lightning will likely continue in parts of Kerala for the next couple of days.

The district administrations had declared a holiday for educational institutions in districts where a red alert was earlier issued, along with Pathanamthitta, in the wake of the extreme heavy rainfall forecast.

However, no heavy rainfall was recorded anywhere in Kerala during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
