The Kerala Headload Workers’ Act, 1978, will be modernised after a study of the conditions in modern times, Minister for Labour Bindhu Krishna has said.

She was speaking after inaugurating a headload workers’ meeting organised by the Headload and Loading Workers’ Congress here on Wednesday.

The Minister said steps would be taken to revise the wages for loading and unloading work in various sectors that had remained the same for years.

Bringing in more responsibility in the State’s loading and unloading sector with the aim of protecting it was the State government’s responsibility too, Ms. Krishna said.

Headload and Loading Workers’ Congress president V.R. Prathapan presided. Headload Workers’ Federation president A.K. Hafeez who is also the Kollam Corporation Mayor delivered the keynote address.
