Kerala Muslim Jamaat president Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar has reminded political leaders of their social responsibility and the need to speak and act with care.
“Political leaders should never speak in a way that deepens divisions. Politics is not just about elections or power; it touches the everyday lives of people. Power comes and goes, but this land is shared by countless persons living together. Sowing discord among them can have far-reaching consequences,” Mr. Aboobacker Musliar cautioned.
He was addressing a reception accorded to his Kerala Yatra at Tirur on Thursday (January 8, 2026) evening. Mr. Aboobacker Musliar is leading the yatra from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the centenary celebrations of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, the largest body of traditional Islamic scholars in Kerala.

He cautioned politicians against reviving the unfortunate events that people wish to leave behind. “Political leaders must never cross limits for short-term gains,” he said, stressing that communalism must never be allowed to take root in society. “Once it takes hold, it is extremely difficult to eradicate,” he warned.
Large crowds on the way welcomed the yatra at Tirur. Different political parties too greeted the yatra rasing the slogan ‘with humanity’. The reception also preceded a rally and a ‘centenary guard’ parade.

Apart from Sunni leaders such as Ponmala Abdul Khadir Musliar, Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari, Perodu Abdurahman Saqafi and Sulaiman Saqafi Maliyekkal, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, MLAs K.T. Jaleel and Kurukkoli Moideen, Congress leaders C. Haridas, P.T. Ajay Mohan and K.P. Noushad Ali, and CPI(M) leader E. Jayan were among those who spoke.
The yatra will enter Palakkad on Friday (January 9, 2026). It will reach Kochi on Sunday (January 11, 2026) and conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on January 16 after receptions at Thodupuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kayamkulam, and Kollam.
