Amitabh Bachchan with Kamal Haasan on the sets of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’

Veteran Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan on Tuesday (February 24) announced the commencement of the much-awaited pan-Indian biggie, Kalki 2, the sequel to the hit dystopian epic Kalki 2898 AD.
Amitabh shared pictures from the set on his blog to announce the news. The pictures feature Amitabh in the costume of his character Ashvatthama, meeting Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, who plays the antagonist Supreme Yaskin in the Kalki universe.
The upcoming sequel film will feature Amitabh and Kamal together on screen after 39 years. The stalwarts were last seen together in the 1985 film Geraftaar, which interestingly also featured superstar Rajinikanth.
“Meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN … we shall be working together after ages .. last in Giraftar ..Kalki 2 begun the work .. and shall ever cherish the love and affection of anticipated presence on the Sunday .. but hopefully shall be with all this coming Sunday ..(sic)” Amitabh captioned the images.
Kalki 2 is the much-awaited sequel of 2024’s Kalki 2898 AD. Directed by Nag Ashwin and headlined by Prabhas, the film featured Amitabh, Kamal, Deepika Padukone and Shobhana, and attempted an unusual meeting point of the past and the future by blending stories from the Mahabharata with a futuristic, dystopian science fiction world.
Meanwhile, in September 2025, the makers of the film announced that they had parted ways with actor Deepika Padukone since “they were unable to find a partnership” with Deepika. Details of the actor who has been cast as Deepika’s replacement remains unknown.
Though Kamal and Amitabh were part of the first Kalki film, it didn’t feature them together. The news of the reunion of the two megastars has come as a surprise to their fans, who are all now all eager to see Ashwattama take on Supreme Yaskin.
