Mahmood Kooria of the University of Edinburgh will deliver a lecture on the theme “Translations on the margins: legal commentaries and interlineations in the Indian Ocean” at the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) campus on Monday.

The annual memorial lecture, organised in memory of Prof. Scaria Zacharia, an eminent researcher in language, culture, translation studies and social history, is being organised by the Inter-University Centre for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE), in collaboration with the Scaria Zacharia Foundation and TAPASAM (Association for Comparative Studies). The event will be held at the Convergence Academia Complex Seminar Hall.

In his speech, scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Kooria will explore the intellectual traditions, textual circulations, and interpretive practices that influenced legal and scholarly exchanges across the Indian Ocean world.
