The two-day coastal security exercise Sagar Kavach conducted by the Indian Coast Guard in collaboration with various maritime and coastal security stakeholders to validate the Standard Operating Procedures of coastal security in Karnataka and Kerala concluded on Friday (November 7, 2025).

The exercise was aimed at strengthening inter agency coordination and enhancing the overall preparedness of maritime defence mechanism across Karnataka and Kerala coast.

“The security exercise saw active participation from multiple Central and state government agencies,” according to a Coast Guard release here.

The exercise was conducted in a real time scenario, simulating possible threats originating from the sea with primary aim of testing and refining the standard operating procedures. It covered 320 km coastline of Karnataka and 580 km coastline of Kerala including vital ports and installations.

In a simulated scenario, the ‘Red Force’ team representing anti national elements, was tasked with infiltration into mainland, while the ‘Blue Force’ defended and neutralised the threat. This scenario tested the capabilities of each agency in addressing various situations ranging from identifying suspicious vessels to managing emergencies and coordination of multiple agencies in real time scenario for cooperation, inter agencies’ communication and coordination. Blue forces thwarted Red forces’ infiltration utilising, electronic umbrella, sophisticated anti drone jammers and phone tracking.

“The successful completion of Sagar Kavach reaffirms the commitment and resolve of the Indian Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police, CISF, State Police, ITBP, Navy, Fisheries and Customs Departments and other associated agencies in ensuring the safety and security of coastline and installations,” the Coast Guard said.
