India’s Construction Equipment (CE) industry pegged at $10 billion currently has been growing at a 10% to 15% CAGR in the last 10 years and expected to emerge as the second largest player in the world in 2030 after overtaking China, said Deepak Shetty, co-chairman, EXCON 2025, South Asia’s Construction Equipment Exhibition, which will begin on December 9 in the city.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Shetty said the construction equipment industry was committed to making India the second largest and fastest-growing CE market globally, tripling its size to $25 billion and emerging as a global manufacturing and export hub.
This ambition aligns with the country’s infrastructure goals and the need for advanced technologies to meet the demands of mega projects and smart cities.
The CE industry covers earthmoving machines such as excavators, loaders, dozers, and graders; material handling equipment, including cranes, forklifts, telehandlers; road construction machines such as compactors, pavers, rollers, and concrete equipment, meant for various sectors like infrastructure, building, mining, etc.
India currently sells 1,40,000 units of such machines a year, and some 20% of these were also exported to some 140 countries and exports have been growing at 20%. China sells around 2,50,000 machines.
The CE industry has been increasingly adopting technologies like telematics, Internet of Things for real-time monitoring, drones & robotics for surveying and repetitive tasks, and artificial intelligence and machine learning and also digital twins for predictive maintenance and site optimisation, alongside advancements in electrification.
To enhance safety and efficiency, the industry is also adopting augmented reality & virtual reality, 3D Printing and in addition to exploring automations under industry 4.0 practices.
This edition, EXCON 2025, features seven country pavilions representing France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, China and the U.K., marking it as one of the largest construction equipment exhibitions globally and the second largest in Asia, Mr. Shetty said.
