Lorry topples on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway in Ambur

An onion-laden lorry overturned on the carriageway of Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) in Ambur town in Tirupattur on Tuesday.

Police said the lorry was proceeding towards Koyambedu Wholesale market in Chennai from Bengaluru to deliver a consignment of onions when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle. In the impact, the vehicle overturned on the carriageway. The incident happened around 5.30 a.m.

Immediately, passersby and other motorists rushed to the spot. Police said that by noticing people, the lorry driver fled the spot and was still absconding. Based on the alert, Ambur Town police inspected the spot.

The overturned vehicle was towed to safety. Police also took steps to remove tonnes of onions that was spilt on the carriageway. Traffic was affected on the route before police restored normalcy. A case was registered. Special teams were formed to nab the lorry driver. A probe is under way.
