Founder and Chancellor of VIT G. Viswanathan on Thursday said that from being a mere talent pool of technocrats, India has grown to become a hub for engineering and technology, changing the perception of the country at global level.

In his presidential address at the 5th Indian International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM-2025), which was jointly organised by VIT Business School and IEOM Society International (USA), at VIT campus here, Mr. Viswanathan said that students, researchers, innovators and academics should understand the importance of engineering and technology as these two areas of specialisation are key to economic growth of a country.

Use of AI

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics in the manufacturing sector has narrowed down the gap between engineering and technology in recent years. The world belongs to those who understand the importance of engineering and technology in industries,” he said.

He further said that students should develop the art of using knowledge gained in classrooms to real life situations, especially in work and business. It will help youngsters to handle challenges in their career and life.
