Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed officials to complete preparations at select lakes ahead of Telangana government’s International Kite Festival, scheduled to be held from January 13 to 15, as part of the Sankranti celebrations.

For the upcoming festivities, Bathukamma Kunta, Thammidikunta in Madhapur, Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally, and Bam-Rukn-ud-Daula in the Old City, are being prepared as festival venues, according to a release. The State has decided to organise the Kite Festival this year near lakes restored and developed by HYDRAA.

Mr. Ranganath inspected the ongoing development works at Thammidikunta and Nalla Cheruvu on Wednesday, December 24 and issued a series of instructions to officials on the ground. He directed that immediate arrangements be made to ensure that only treated water from sewage treatment plants flows into the lakes, thereby preventing the direct discharge of untreated sewage.

The Commissioner stressed the need to maintain a clean and hygienic environment in and around STP locations and suggested the use of available government land near the lakes for related infrastructure. He called for the development of parks, an increase in green cover, and the transformation of each restored lake into a tourist-friendly public space.

Mr. Ranganath also underlined the importance of safety measures around the lakes and instructed officials to ensure the provision of drinking water facilities and toilets for visitors. He reviewed parking arrangements and directed officials to facilitate smooth entry and exit for vehicles during the festival period.
