A history-sheeter who was arrested by the police in an attempt to murder case was detained under the provisions of the Goondas Act.
The detainee has been identified as V. Gopi, 31 of Kurinjipadi in Cuddalore district. The police had recently arrested Gopi and 17 others in an attempt to murder case. The accused had 30 cases pending against him in Neyveli and Muthandikuppam police stations.
Acting on the recommendations of Cuddalore District Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla, Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar invoked provisions of the Goondas Act against Gopi. The orders were served on him in the Cuddalore Central Prison.
