Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao alleged that the Congress government in the State is planning to privatise the energy sector by installing prepaid meters to consumers of all categories.
Speaking at a meeting of the booth level agents of the party in Amberpet constituency on Sunday, he reminded people that the BRS had warned them that free power supply would be discontinued in case the Congress was voted to power and exactly the same was happening now with prepaid meters set to be installed for the domestic sector initially.
He alleged that the government decision to join the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS) introduced by the Centre was aimed at installing meters to the agricultural connections and prepaid energy meters to other categories of consumers. The decision was taken to privatise the energy sector and hand over the distribution business to corporate companies such as Adani Group.
Installing meters to agricultural pumpsets was part of the Congress government’s conspiracy to discontinue the free power supply to the agriculture sector. He asked the people to cut-off the fuse of the Congress before it installed the prepaid meters to domestic and other categories of consumers and meters to agricultural connections in the name of measuring consumption by the farm sector.
Mr. Rama Rao recollected that the BRS government had not agreed for installation of prepaid meters despite the Centre’s pressure and linking ₹30,000 crore borrowing limit to the move. Once the prepaid meters were installed, the people (consumers) would have to pay the money in advance to avail electricity even for their domestic needs as they do with the prepaid mobile phone connections now, he cautioned.
Stating that people were highly angry with the Congress dispensation, he said they were ready to teach the ruling party a fitting lesson whenever an opportunity was given to them. He alleged that the Congress was resorting to large-scale corruption and excesses, unable to keep the promises made indiscriminately.
He stated that about 1,000 party (BRS) activists would be given training soon on the membership drive and they would be made aware of the failures of the Congress government, including its inability to fulfil the promises, corruption, injustices and excesses on people. The membership drive would be completely in the digital mode this time, he noted.
Mr. Rama Rao also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Future City talk by neglecting the existing city.
