As part of the World Heritage Week celebrations, a special Heritage Walk was organised in Anantapur city on Wednesday (November 19) jointly by the Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC), the District Tourism Department, the Department of Archaeology and Discover Ananthapuram, an NGO based in the city.

The walk began at the historic Collectorate, continuing through Victoria Hospital, Arts College, Sub-Jail, Peace Memorial Hall and culminating at the District Museum, a route designed to showcase the city’s iconic colonial and pre-Independence heritage.

Flagging off the heritage walk, District Collector Anand said it is the responsibility of every individual to preserve and protect the rich heritage and traditions of the city. He called upon the people to dedicate some time for other activities as well to get respite from professional stress.

As part of the walk, noted painter Ramesh Narayana spread awareness about the various heritage constructions in the city among the students. Discover Ananthapuram founder A.G. Anil Kumar lauded the support extended by the Collector and Municipal Commissioner Balaswamy for the walk.

Participants, especially schoolchildren, received specially designed heritage-themed memorabilia, including fridge magnets, coffee mugs, heritage calendars, customised canvas bags and collectible badges. Each item featured illustrations and narratives celebrating Anantapur’s rich architectural legacy and historical landmarks.

On the occasion, Mr. Anil Kumar reaffirmed commitment to heritage conservation, public engagement and educating the next generation about the city’s timeless legacy. The organisers expressed gratitude to all departments and volunteers.
