1. All establishments in Karnataka dealing with foreigners told to register with FRRO
The Karnataka government has directed all establishments — educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, commercial establishments, companies and NGOs — who have foreign nationals in them either for education, for medical treatment or for work, to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). These establishments should declare the foreigners associated with them, provide copies of their passport and visa, give FRRO details of their role and responsibilities as well.
The State government has directed Karnataka State Police to carry out a close surveillance of areas where a large number of foreign nationals reside, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara told the Karnataka Assembly, responding to a question raised by Malleshwaram BJP MLA Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan. The data tabled by Dr. Parameshwara also shows that the State has 13,675 expats living legally. Bengaluru tops the list (10,650), and is followed by Mysuru, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Belagavi districts.
2. Prohibitory orders extended in Maddur, security beefed up amid call for bandh
Prohibitory orders were extended and security was beefed up in Maddur of Mandya district even as the bandh called by right-wing organisations — to condemn the lathi-charge by police against the people protesting the stone-pelting incident during the Ganesha procession — elicited a mixed response in the trouble-hit town on September 9, 2025.
Even though some shops had downed their shutters voluntarily, several business establishments carried on with their commercial activities. Amid the uneasy calm that prevailed in the town, Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said police personnel had been deployed across the town and patrolling stepped up to ensure a close vigil against any attempt by miscreants to disturb peace.
3. Chamundi Chalo rally foiled, BJP, Hindu Jagaran Vedike supporters taken into preventive custody
Scores of BJP activists and VHP supporters were taken into preventive custody by the police who foiled a ‘Chamundi Chalo’ rally called by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, in Mysuru on September 9, 2025. The rally was organised to protest the State government’s decision to invite writer Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate Dasara festival, slated to be held from September 22 to October 2, 2025.
The police had already denied permission to hold the rally in view of law and order concerns over and also to avoid inconvenience to tourists and devotees visiting the popular shrine ahead of Dasara. However, activists assembled in large numbers at Kurubarahalli Circle despite multiple layer of security cordon, which BJP leaders condemned as ‘’police atrocity’’.
4. Karnataka forest department staff locked up inside tiger trap cage by irate villagers in Bandipur buffer zone
In a bizarre incident, more than 10 frontline staff of the Forest Department were locked up inside a large cage meant to trap a tiger in Bommalapura village, located in the buffer zone of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, on Tuesday (September 9, 2025).
The cage had been placed by the department after villagers reported pug marks of a tiger near their fields. However, when the big cat did not fall into the trap and no further combing operations were taken up, angry villagers turned on the field staff.
5. Video of pro-Pakistan slogans goes viral, Bhadravathi police book case
Bhadravathi Police in Shivamogga registered a case after a video clip, purportedly showing people raising slogans praising Pakistan during a procession, went viral on September 9, 2025. The police are making efforts to identify the culprits.
The residents of Bhadravathi took out an Id-Milad procession in the town on September 8, and it is said that the video clip was shot during the procession. Shivamogga SP G.K. Mithun Kumar has formed teams to find those raising the objectionable slogans.
