Justice K. Lakshman of Telangana High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition challenging the decision of the State government allocating 42% reservation to candidates of backward classes in the ensuring local body polls.

The judge heard the plea filed by a social activist B. Madhava Reddy and an agriculturist J. Mallavva questioning the reservations to the BC candidates in the polls to local bodies to be held in the State soon. The judge observed that the plea was filed based on the reports published in the newspapers.

Dismissing the plea, the judge said the court cannot take cognizance of reports published by newspapers as held by the Supreme Court earlier.
