Expressing concern at the alleged lack of hygiene and cleanliness on the Chottanikkara temple premises, the Kerala High Court has directed the executive engineer of the Cochin Devaswom Board’s ‘maramath wing’ and the assistant engineer of the Chottanikkara Devaswom to appear personally before the court on September 24 to explain the remedial measures to be taken in this regard.

A Division Bench of Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V. and Justice K.V. Jayakumar issued the directive while considering a suo motu petition on a complaint which also had photos depicting the alleged lack of hygiene and cleanliness on the premises of the temple and its kitchen. The complaint also referred to the alleged failure on the part of the officials concerned in ensuring cleanliness and accountability and inadequate waste segregation measures.
