The Haryana Police have served notices to the State office-bearers of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) over a video speech on a social media platform for allegedly inciting workers to strike on April 16, coinciding with the trade union’s call for Statewide protests seeking the release of 55 workers arrested for violence earlier this week.

In a notice to CITU Haryana general secretary Jai Bhagwan under Section 168 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Gurugram police said Mr. Bhagwan had made public a video speech on Facebook from his mobile phone to incite workers for a strike on April 16. “If any cognisable offence is committed due to the speech circulated on social media, then legal action will be taken against you as per rules,” read the notice. The authorities have served a similar notice to CITU Haryana vice-president Vinod Kumar.
