Members of the gram panchayat in Halaga village of Belagavi district have passed a resolution to urge all residents to switch off all kinds of screens, TV and mobile phones, to enable students to study.

The village will use sirens to signal the blackout between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. every day.

The exercise was inspired by a similar experiment in Agran Dhul village near Sangli in Maharashtra.

Gram panchayat members and teachers will visit individual houses to urge parents to adhere to the timeline, said a release.
