The Visakhapatnam Central GST Commissionerate launched its GST Day 2026 celebrations with a 5-km walkathon on Beach Road on Thursday to create awareness about Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance among the public.

Officers and staff of the Central GST Department participated in the walkathon, which was organised from Kali Mandir to YMCA. Participants carried placards and banners highlighting this year’s GST Day theme, ‘Easy Tax System, Empowered India’, and sought to spread awareness on the importance of GST compliance and its benefits to society.

Additional Commissioners Balram, Upendra Kumar Dhruv and P. Amaresh, along with Joint Commissioner Sonal Jawanjal Subhash and other senior officers of the department, took part in the programme.

The Commissionerate said the week-long celebrations would conclude on July 1 with a function at GST Bhavan to mark the ninth anniversary of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax in the country.
