Devotees thronged Canal Road in the city on Monday (February 16, 2026) to participate in the annual Rathotsavam, marking the conclusion of the Mahasivaratri celebrations. The celestial chariot procession featured the processional deities of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy, Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamy, and Vasanta Mallikarjuna Swamy.

Amid chants of “Om Namah Shivaya,” devotees enthusiastically pulled the ornately decorated chariot, creating an atmosphere charged with spiritual fervour.

Organised by the Sri Kanyakaparameswari Annasatram Committee, the festival drew devotees not only from across the city but also from various parts of the district. The chariot was pulled up to the Vinayaka temple, with devotees holding the massive ropes in a collective expression of faith and tradition.

Cultural performances added vibrancy to the celebrations. Traditional art forms including “kolatam”, “puli veshalu”, and “lambada” dances captivated the audience, while music bands entertained the crowds. Artistes depicting mythological episodes further enhanced the festive spirit, drawing applause from onlookers.

Devotees lined the streets with offerings, waiting patiently for a glimpse of the deities as the procession moved slowly through the packed thoroughfare. Priests recited Vedic hymns and conducted special rituals throughout the event, reinforcing the religious significance of the occasion.

Elaborate security arrangements were in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, as Canal Road remained packed for several hours. Despite the heavy turnout, the festivities concluded peacefully.
