HYDERABAD

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former president of the Telangana NGOs’ Association G. Deviprasad Rao stated that the State government has ₹15,000 crore dues to be paid to pensioners and employees in the form of retirement benefits, pension and dearness allowance and other allowances/dues.

Speaking to newspersons here on Sunday, he noted that several government employees, including teachers, died of heart attack after retirement as they had been finding it difficult to meet even monthly family expenses and were unable to perform their daughters’ marriages with pensionary benefits, as planned. A retired teacher Kondaiah died of a heart attack, while another retired employee Satyanarayana had gone missing (intentionally left home), unable to meet his financial commitments planned with retirement benefits.

Some employees had moved the court seeking directions to the government for release of their pensionary benefits, but there was no relief to them since the government had promised before the court that it would release ₹700 crore every month for the purpose but had failed to keep its word. The Supreme Court had directed in the past that benefits to the retired employees should be settled within six months after they retire, even if it’s late.
