The State government handed over 10 acres of land at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park at Thonnakkal on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram city to the CSIR–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR–NIIST) on Thursday, October 9, for establishing a ‘Centre for Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship’ focused on life sciences and bio-based industries.

The new centre will be a state-of-the-art hub for research, innovation, and start-ups, translating scientific advances into commercially viable solutions, according to a press release. It aims to strengthen Kerala’s life science ecosystem through technology development, incubation, licensing, and industry collaboration, while also promoting skill development and talent creation in emerging areas.

The facility will also support CSIR-NIIST’s ongoing initiatives, including the Kerala Hydrogen Valley Project, exploring solar-powered hydrogen production from wastewater for applications such as green ammonia and urea.
