Government will extend full support for development of AIIMS: Minister Satya Kumar Yadav

Minister for Health Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday said that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Mangalagiri) will emerge as a jewel in the crown of Amaravati city.

Speaking at a function organised to mark 8th Foundation Day celebrations of the AIIMS, the Minister said the coalition government would extend its full cooperation for development of the institution. He said he would expedite the allocation of the remaining 10 acres yet to be allotted out of the total 190 acres, as it would facilitate the availability of trauma care services.

The Minister said that within a short period, AIIMS-Mangalagiri have gained the trust of patients and said that out of the total 26 AIIMS in the country, 19 were operational and the remaining were in various stages of construction.

He, however, said that in comparison to the AIIMS, State government hospitals had been extending remarkable services with much lower budget. AIIMS received an annual budget of ₹500 crroe, while teaching hospitals in the State were allocated an average of ₹150 crore a year, he said.

The Minister claimed that the number of out-patients and in-patients and laboratory tests in government hospitals across the State has increased by 8% to 12 % over the past 19 months through the implementation of the 30-point agenda.

Unauthorised absenteeism among doctors has come down, promotions are being given on time, all types of medicines are provided for free and all necessary facilities are arranged for conducting diagnostic tests, he said, adding that efforts are also being made to increase the number of deliveries in government hospitals.

Mr. Yadav expressed anger over what he termed as malicious propaganda being spread about the government’s plan to run medical colleges under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He reiterated that the ownership rights of the government medical colleges run under the PPP model will remain entirely with the government.

Later, in a statement, the Minister said that to improve access to free dialysis services, especially for kidney patients in rural areas, establishment of 13 new dialysis centres was being fast-tracked. Tenders had been floated for six centres and five new centres were being set up at Kondepi in Prakasam district, Mydukuru in Kadapa district, Kovvur in East Godavari district, Nandigama in NTR district and Railway Koduru in Tirupati district.

He said these centres were santioned under the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP).
