The Health department launched a heart health enhancement programme named ‘Hridayapoorvam’ in the district on Monday, marking the World Heart Day celebrations. Training in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) will be given to government employees and Kudumbashree personnel as part of the programme.
Inaugurating the programme here, District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty underscored the importance of CPR for heart attack victims. She said that everyone should know how to administer CPR and artificial breathing, urging people to take timely action to save lives.
The government launched the Hridayapoorvam campaign to empower people to recognise suspected heart attack symptoms and provide primary care. The initial phase involves training officials and volunteers from various fields, including ASHA and Kudumbashree workers.
District Surveillance Officer Kavya Karunakaran presided over the function held at the District Collectorate. Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) district secretary Vaishakh Balan and Indian Medical Association (IMA)’s emergency life support (ELS) committee district coordinator Kajal Abid led BLS training.
District Deputy Medical Officer Ahamed Afasal, District Hospital Superintendent P.K. Jayasree, Government Medical College, Palakkad, Superintendent B. Sreeram, and District Education Media Officer S. Sayana spoke.
Training was given to government employees in different departments at the Civil Station and at district and taluk hospitals as part of the campaign.
