Torrential rainfall that lashed Yadgir district for the last couple of days has led to a heavy amount of water flow in both the Bhima and the Krishna. And, the Bhima has flooded many villages.
According to official data, road connectivity to 24 villages in the district has been disrupted after bridges/bridge-cum-barrages got submerged in the Bhima waters.
As many as 104 houses have been damaged and standing crops in 1.18 lakh hectares have been destroyed by floods.
The district administration has shifted 1,360 members of 445 families from flood-affected villages to care centres where they are being provided food, drinking water and other facilities.
Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar has in a press note stated that the care centres have been set up for residents of flood-affected riverbank villages.
Of the 1,360 residents, 150 are from 50 families in Hurasgundagi village, 250 from 65 families in Roja S. Sirwal village, 300 from 80 families in Shivanur village, 200 from 100 families in Naikal village and 460 from 150 families in Machanur village, Mr. Bhoyar stated.
He further stated that 22 sheep and goats have died in rain-related incidents. “A joint survey on crop damage is under way. Officials are also visiting houses that have been damaged in rain,” Mr. Bhoyar said.
The district has received 122% excess rainfall against the average. The average rainfall from September 22 to 28 is 42 mm. But the district has recorded 51 mm.
The villages that have been affected disruption in road connectivity due to floods are as follows: Roja S. Sirwal, Shivanur, Joldadagi, Kumanur, Arjunagi, Lingeri, Malhar, Thanagundi, Hedagimadri, Anur (K), Anur (B), Bilhar, Budihal, Koulur, Hegganagera, Kotanur, Hosalli (K), Chatnalli, Babalad, Maramkal, Naikal and Gundalli.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a team from NDRF has already arrived in the district to take up relief measures in the flood-affected villages. He added that a care centre will be set up at Talak village after verification of the flood situation.
